Process

Carpet Manufacturing Process

Production process of hand-made Nepalese carpets (rugs):

WOOL SOURCING
Wool is sourced from sheep farmers and then washed to remove dirt.

CARDING
The sourced wool is combed to ensure no fiber is intermingled with another. Carding also helps remove all foreign particles from wool.

SPINNING
Wool fibers are drawn and twisted to make yarns of desired thickness. The thickness determines the quality of carpets.

DYEING
Wool is dyed with natural vegetable dye or AZO-free synthetic ones (Swiss) as per customer demand.

DESIGNING
With consultation from customers, the in-house design team prepares blueprint for the carpet in terms of color, size, shape and quality (knots).

WEAVING
On vertical looms, weavers weave the carpets as per the design.

TRIMMING
Design and patterns on the carpets are carved out by scissors.

WASHING
The carpets are then washed with fresh water to remove dirt. It is then washed with household chemicals to restore shine of wool and make the carpets germ-free. The carpets are then dried over sunlight for 4-5 days.

STRETCHING
The carpets are stretched from all four sides to maintain perfect square shape.

FINISHING
The carpets are retrimmed to give consistent look on the carpets. Unwanted threads from the carpet are removed.

PACKING
The finished carpets are rolled and wrapped in polythene sheets before being packed in jute wrappings.
